A student fell 40 feet to his death in Mesa County was intoxicated.

According to the Associate Press, the Mesa County coroner's office says 20-year-old Spencer Pannwitz's blood-alcohol concentration was 0.161 percent when he fell about 40 feet Jan. 24. The legal standard for being under the influence of alcohol is 0.08 percent.

The kinesiology major did not have any drugs in his system when he fell, and the death has been ruled an accident.

He hailed from Parker and was living in Grand Junction at the time of his death.
