Native American tribes in Colorado are going to receive a windfall of grant money.

Tribes in 12 other states will enjoy some of the money being set aside for conservation projects.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has awarded $4.2 million in grants to Native American tribes in Colorado and 12 other states for conservation projects to support 22 projects benefiting wildlife and habitat. The Tribal Wildlife Grants program has awarded more than $68 million to support more than 400 projects since it began in 2003.

The other states where the projects will occur will be in Alaska, Arizona, California, Florida, Maine, Minnesota, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, South Dakota, Washington and Wisconsin.
