Celebrate the Repeal of Prohibition Tonight

As much as we may or may not want to admit it, beer and spirits have played a huge part in American history. Today is the anniversary - well, ok, April in general is the anniversary - of the repeal of prohibition. Thus, why tonight (April 9) is the Anheuser Busch Repeal Party at the Biergarten.

Beer has roots in American history; the Native Americans brewed corn beer long before Europeans found their way to America. The first known New World brewery opened in Manhattan (then known as New Amsterdam) in 1612. Individual state prohibition dates back to 1848, but National Prohibition began when the 18th amendment went into effect on January 16, 1920. Prohibition effectively ended in April of 1933 but the 21st amendment made it official in December of 1933. While the history of independent breweries has ebbed and flowed, today the brewing industry (craft and large batch breweries) is strong.

Tonight starting at 6:00 P.M. Anheuser Busch's Biergarten will celebrate the repeal of Prohibition. Tickets are (conveniently) $19.33 each. That ticket will get you a commemorative glass, a Budweiser, Michelob and Faust beer, cream cheese filled pretzel and live music. Additional food and beer is available for purchase. The only catch?
