Several homes in Wellington have received pre-evacuation notices due to the Cattleman Fire, which began burning late Saturday afternoon.

Around 6 p.m., the Wellington Fire Department stated on Twitter that the grass fire had already burned approximately 1,995 acres and was 85% contained. At this time, no structures have been reported as damaged. No humans or livestock were injured during the incident either. High winds and warm temperatures are possible contributing factors to the blaze. Crews are still battling the fire that’s about 20 miles north of Fort Collins and will keep the public updated on their progress.

UPDATE: Per the Wellington Fire Department, pre-evacuations have been lifted for the area as of 7:50 p.m. Crews were able to get the fire 100% contained at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday night. Fire crews remained on scene over night to mop-up and monitor any hotspots. As of Sunday, March 5, 2017, the approximate size of the Cattle Fire is at 2,000 acres. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but reportedly started at the address of 20672 Cattle Dr. The fire department also noted a name change from Cattleman Fire to Cattle Fire. The Nunn Volunteer Fire Department, Platte River Power Authority, and Larimer County Office of Emergency Services, Loveland Fire, Poudre Fire Authority, Rist Canyon Fire and Livermore Fire, and Colorado Department of Fire and Prevention assisted Wellington Fire Protection District.
