Nike's brief and swift statement on Wednesday in regards to Manny Pacquiao's anti-gay commentary has cost the boxing Congressman from the Philippines his endorsement and the company severing business ties with the boxer.

A campaign, called #DropPacman was created on the online petition site, Change.org, in less than 24 hours after the petition was created, Manny Pacquiao was no longer endorsed by Nike.

Pacquiao, is currently preparing for his last fight coming up in April and is also running for a seat in the Philippines Senate elections in May. The backlash has been brought on when Pacquiao' stance on same sex marriage was brought up on an interview on local TV5's election site “Do you see animals mating with the same sex? Animals are better because they can distinguish male from female. If men mate with men and women mate with women they are worse than animals.” which can be seen here:

Nike's statement said  
"Nike strongly opposes discrimination of any kind and has a long history of supporting and standing up for the rights of the LGBT community."   Pacquaio took to Twitter to issue an apology:
