The Laramie County Sheriff's Office is working to figure out how a man's body ended up in a reservoir east of Cheyenne.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Capt. Linda Gesell says deputies investigating a report of a burned vehicle on Burlington Trail Road spotted the body floating in Wyoming Hereford Ranch Reservoir Number 1 around 1:30 p.m. this (Sunday) afternoon.

Gesell says the body -- which was located next to the shoreline -- appears to be that of a white or Hispanic male in his early 20s, but investigators have yet to identify the man. She says an autopsy has been scheduled for tomorrow.

The department is asking anyone who's had a loved one go missing to call them at (307) 633-4775.

Gesell says the vehicle that was burned appeared to be a Lincoln SUV or crossover and may be connected to a reported shooting in northeast Cheyenne early this morning.

The case remains under investigation.
