Brian’s Story

Life took a tragic turn for Brian on Sunday, August 27. While enjoying time with friends on a pontoon boat at Cherry Creek State Park, Brian dove into shallow water, hitting his head and severely damaging several vertebrae.  He experienced immediate numbness from his chest down.  Brian was rushed via ambulance to Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colorado where he endured an 8-hour surgery removing and replacing both his C5 and C6 vertebrae, fusing his spine and supporting his back with 12 screws.  While Brian quickly regained movement in his arms after the surgery, his legs have been slower to respond and his medical prognosis is most likely permanent nerve damage.

Brian is undergoing rigorous rehabilitation treatment at Craig Hospital in Englewood.   A YouCaring campaign was started to help aid with medical expenses not covered by Brian’s insurance.   Thus far, Brian has received an overwhelming amount of support throughout the Denver bluegrass music community.

Brian currently lives in Denver with his girlfriend Kristin, their roommate Patrick, and their 3 dogs; Carlos, Chloe, and Remy. He works as a Project Manager for Renewal by Anderson.  Brian plans on attending the Bluegrass Festival on November 5th in person.
