After the tragedy in Boston, it stands to reason that people all over the country are a little on-edge when it comes to bomb threats.  So I can't say I'm surprised that Berthoud police evacuated part of their downtown area Monday morning when somebody reported unattended bags at the community center.

After the two plastic garbage bags were reported to Berthoud Fire on Monday morning, officials evacuated the 200 block of Welch Avenue between 2nd Street and 3rd Street around 8:30 a.m. and set up a perimeter to block traffic in that area.

Members of the Northern Colorado Bomb Squad were called in; and, after what were surely a very tense two hours, they determined the bags were simply trash.  Phew!

Better safe than sorry, if you ask me, especially considering recent events!
