Feasting Fort Collins Food For Thought – A Look into Restaurant Health Inspections

For most of us, our knowledge of what goes on in a restaurant health inspection comes from reality TV shows like "Kitchen Nightmares." We sit watching in horror when Chef Ramsay goes through the refrigerator pulling out rotten food from the shelves, running his finger through thick gobs of black goo at the bottom of filthy equipment, and gagging at the realization that he was just served spoiled garbage that was sure to result in food poisoning.

But is this really a reality?

Feasting Fort Collins Reviews – D. P. Dough

We're night owls in this house, and I'm the one who stays up the latest. I've had my fill of late night comedy, mostly snorting over the weirdness that is Connan O'Brien. I've also had my fill of late night food (both drunk and sober), mostly drooling over the cheesiness that is D.P. Dough.  What better way to combine late night food and late night comedy than with a David Letterman-style Top 10 list.

Feasting Fort Collins Reviews – Funkwerks Brewery

If everyone were exactly the same, the world would be a boring place to live. The same principles apply to the breweries in Fort Collins.  We have so many of them, that if they were all the same, Fort Collins wouldn’t be the beer mecca that it is. Each brewery adds a different flavor and zing to our community palette in their very own unique ways. Funkwerks is no different, or rather, the most different – depending on how you look at it.

Feasting Fort Collins Reviews – King Weenie

As spring gradually warms up, thoughts of picnics and parks begin to flutter around in our heads.  After being cooped up and cold for so long, spring fever starts to hit us hard and all we want to do is run around in grass, enjoy the fresh air and feel the heat of the sun on our skin. The taste of hot dogs outside is a signature summer flavor, and I firmly believe they taste better out in the wild.

Feasting Fort Collins Reviews – Johnson’s Corner

Ahhh, the open road.  The wind blowing through your hair, the comforting rhythmic feeling of the tires on the asphalt, the stereo blasting your favorite songs.  There’s nothing like a road trip to explore wherever the highway might take you, be it a couple of hours or a couple of days.  Part of a proper road trip experience is truck stop dining on your adventure.  Our family has been driving beyond Fort Collins to enjoy more of what Colorado has to offer – sometimes it’s a day trip down to Denver, other times it’s a outdoor expedition in the Rocky Mountains.  No matter where we go, or what we do, we usually start the trip with a traditional visit to Johnson’s Corner for some classic diner grub.

Feasting Fort Collins Reviews – Zquila

As a Fort Collins restaurant critic, it's never too difficult to find friends to join me on reviews.  My job is full of fun conversation and usually good food.  Sometimes there can be a risk involved, but it's usually worth it, even if we only walk away with a horror story to tell everyone later.

Feasting Fort Collins’ Food For Thought – A Meeting of the Minds On Service Standards

Throughout the years of writing restaurant reviews on Feasting Fort Collins, I’ve often left service details out of my writing unless it’s been an essential part of the experience – good or bad.  It’s not a static measurement considering turnover rates and the infrequency of having the same server over multiple visits. I’ve reviewed over 250 restaurants in Colorado, and I’ve had only a few memorable service encounters – exceptional and horrible – with the vast majority of them being tolerable and unnotable.

Feasting Fort Collins Reviews – The Melting Pot

Fort Collins has only a small handful of destination restaurants - places you go to celebrate a special occasion - like a birthday or anniversary. These are places that you just don't visit for family dinners during the week. The Melting Pot is one of those places.
