At any given moment in time, there are a few 'right things' that we should be focusing on to accomplish a desired outcome. Figuring out what the 'right things' are is often difficult, but staying focused on them is the lifeblood of achieving a preferred result. Here's the rub; the 'right things' are usually a small, finite number of behaviors that will get us where we want to be. Everything else is a distraction.

We live on a planet of distractions. As a people, we seem to be starved for the next great distraction. Its our silent little addiction that keeps us from being as successful and productive as we could (and likely want to) be. Anything other than having to focus on the work that needs to be done will do just fine.

I took the 'What Kind of Dog Would You Be' test. Turns out I'm Golden Retriever. We're famous as a breed for only being able to pay attention until a butterfly floats by, a ball rolls past, or it sounds like someone might be opening the 'treat jar.' I am guilty. I admit it, and I am aware of it.

Spend some time looking around you, watching others. How much time is spent on being distracted? I can guarantee you that the answer will be, almost all of it, for almost everyone!

Being aware is a big part. Go out there and accomplish stuff. Focus on the 'right things.' See them through to the end. Don't allow our distraction-filled world steal your glory. The line between mediocrity and greatness is usually a pretty fine one, and being religiously protective of your 'right things' is frequently the difference.

As Dr. Laura would recommend. "Now go do the right thing(s)."
