My default vote always goes to Katy.

There are a lot of other deserving artists on this year's American Music Awards nominee list, but what can I say? I'm a Katy Cat.

Actually, I'm really torn in several categories. There was some great music released in 2014. I LOVE being able to say that, because it's not always the case.

Artist of the Year

I'm torn between Beyonce, Pharrell Williams and Katy Perry.

Beyonce broke new ground with her CD release with accompanying videos for each one late in 2013. Plus she kept the whole thing a huge secret. We didn't even know she was working on anything until it was out. No small feat for the Queen.

Pharrell was the music man of the year last year and this. With his work on Blurred Lines, the Daft Punk record and then on his own track, Happy, we heard him over and over again, and I loved it.

Katy brings the art back to pop music. She sexy but accessible, adventurous and her music eases into my ears.

I don't know who to vote for in this one.

Single of the Year

In this category, I like to see something that will be listenable in 10 years. Pop culture is all about the flavor of the moment, and a great song is one that blends that with timeless elements of music. I'm pretty sure that Fancy by Iggy Azalea isn't going to be a song we hear much in 2024.

Actually, most of these songs have a really 'right now' feel to them, so I'm not sure which way to go. Since they don't have a really timeless feel to them, I think I'll just go with the one that brought the most happiness to the world.

I'm voting for Pharrell.
