I hated it.

From about five minutes in, I had to fight my big star bias and really decide if I thought this movie just sucked or not.

It had so many of my favorite actors. I love Alec Baldwin, Leo Dicaprio, Mark Wahlberg and Matt Damon. I couldn't believe they were all in the same movie that just made me want to vomit on the wall.

I mean, I tried to like it. Tried hard. Couldn't do it.

Then, I noticed that everyone around me was starstruck to stupid and still raves about the movie to this day.

Years after it came out, some Whitey Bulger documentaries started showing up on Netflix. He is the guy at the center of the story in The Departed. Since his life was horrifying and insane, we watched some of them. He is just a crazy character from American history. It's hard to believe the things that actually happened with him and the people surrounding him.

Then, in the suggestion bar, The Departed shows up. My wife hadn't seen it. So, I thought, "You know, maybe I was wrong. That movie can't be as bad as I remembered it."

We gave it another go.

Sucked.

Hated it, again.

I don't want to be squeezing lemons, but I just didn't believe it for one second. Further, I thought, what a shame that such a rich and ripe subject like Whitey Bulger didn't result in a great movie. It sure didn't work out like Henry Hill's real life story with Goodfellas.

That is why I am glad to see that there is a new Whitey Bulger movie coming out, with Johnny Depp in it.
