Nat Geo Wild is premiering a show on Saturday, April 16th called "Second Chance Chihuahuas," in it; Laura Dash gives chihuahuas a second chance at life. It will have you crying at the beginning but will leave you with a smile on your face.

Laura is a former stunt double on movies including Jurassic Park, Interview with a Vampire, The Goonies, Hook, and much more. Now she's got a new TV show called Second Chance Chihuahuas on Nat Geo WILD where cameras follow her and her husband Jim Peterson as they run Dolittle's Ranch in Studio City, California, where they have rescued more than 2,000 chihuahuas over the past ten years.

Chihuahuas have been showing up in record numbers at shelters all over the United States. Laura discusses the pop culture meaning behind this disturbing trend:

"Whenever they see a movie or a TV show I think people want to be like them, it's like when you see an outfit, you know on an actor, who's the designer? Oh, I want to dress like that person. So I think it's no different with an animal dog. You know Dalmatians were popular after 101 Dalmatians."

What would you tell people about adopting a dog from a shelter?

"Educate yourself first on the breed you're interested in because some dogs are hyper dogs so if you're a couch potato, a hyper dog wouldn't be a good fit.  The first thing you should do is do training with the dog because the dog will respect you."
