A Great Source of Protection is Already in Your Pocket [VIDEO]

The pen is mightier than the sword.

So what is the camera more powerful than? Well, it's more powerful than not having a camera, I think we can be sure of that.

The thing is, whenever I'm faced with crime, I'm always ready to shoot. Not bullets. Video.

The video above isn't doing much good for authorities trying to find the burglar. Maybe if the homeowner had shot some video or pictures when he first saw the guy, they'd have more to go on.

I've used the camera on my phone to deter criminals in the past, and it worked really well, actually. When I lived in Old Town, there was one late, late night when I was outside for whatever reason, and saw a totally random car stopped across the street. One person was in the car. Another person walked up to the car, got in, and I don't know what they were planning to do, but for some reason I could tell it was trouble.

I rolled up on them with my camera rolling. The window was cracked, they saw me and it startled them, like they didn't want to get caught doing whatever they were doing. I saw their realization that I was recording them as they saw my phone in my hand pointed at them. I said "I don't care what you are doing, but I would prefer you didn't do it here."

They started the car and took off. Problem solved. I'm not trying to end all crime or bad decisions, but I am interested in making sure it doesn't happen in my neighborhood.

Remember the power of the Rodney King video? Now, almost all of us have the power to record something like that in our pockets at all times. The camera is so powerful!

Another time, I was at an intersection. A car full of teens pulled up next to me. They started heckling me. They were 'baaa-ing' like sheep at me. I have no idea why. I just grabbed my phone, and without even looking at them, started recording video. As soon as they saw the lens of my phone peak above my car door at them, they stopped. Instantly. They weren't even breaking the law. They just didn't want to be caught on video, because they know the power it has.

The other reason why our phones are our most powerful protection device? Because they can call 911, of course.
