A Fort Morgan Woman Flew to Tampa and Got Her Head Beat in by an Old Friend

She lived in Fort Morgan with her husband. Last weekend she flew out to Tampa, Florida. Her intent on the trip isn’t exactly clear, but we can bet it wasn’t to be murdered.

Tragic. That’s truly the only word to describe what happened. Charlie Enice Brooks lived in Fort Morgan. She did live in Florida, as recently as 2012. We don’t a whole lot else about this woman, other than that.

Last Sunday (June 7, 2015) she flew out of DIA to Tampa, where a man picked her up – as seen in surveillance footage from the airport there. In the photos, she seems very happy to see him. This man, Joe Pope, lived with his parents and two sisters at a house in Seminole. Reports have it that Charlie and Joe were longtime friends and ‘possibly’ dated at one time.

So, she’s flown to Tampa to visit Joe. To get caught up? To start dating again? Nobody really knows.

Joe’s parents were out of town and his sisters had gone out, leaving the two of them alone for that Sunday evening; where it would appear something happened. Not 'something.' He killed her by bashing her head in with a huge rock. He then threw her body in a waterway two doors down, where authorities found it the next day.

When police questioned the obvious suspect, Joe, he pretty much denied that he even knew her. By the time police came back with warrants for the home, he had committed suicide.

What was the purpose of her trip? What was her relationship with her husband back in Fort Morgan? Why would this man kill her in such a brutal way?

Even the Fort Morgan newspaper doesn’t seem to have ANY info on the murder.

Is nobody missing Charlie?
