Some of these charities need your help year round. One happens just after Christmas. Either way, if you are going to give during the holidays, these are a few that I think are really worth a look!

Realities for Children Give A Night Light

Realities for Children helps neglected and abused children. Not only do they help them out of their troubled situations, afterward, they help them thrive. Giving a Night Light is one of the many ways they accept donations to their cause. Anyone, businesses, families, groups, or individuals can sponsor a light on the tree starting at about $100.

The special Night Lights tree sits along the west side of College Avenue just south of Mulberry in Fort Collins.

    Sleigh Riders

I have to admit that two of these giving ideas are efforts helped or spearheaded by my colleagues here at Townsquare Media. For that, I feel no need to apologize. They do great things and I want you to know about them.

This one is one of Charley Barnes' charities, and it gives toys to kids in need. The ride happens the last Sunday before Christmas (Dec. 21, 2014), and it benefits Santa Cops of Weld County.

If you'd like to ride you can get more information from Charley Barnes' afternoon show on K99, or click here.

Colorado Gives Day seeks to encourage people to engage in philanthropic efforts locally. The specific day is December 9, 2014, but they'll accept donations year round. Coloradogives.org is a like a compilation website that features many of Colorado's most active and effective charitable organizations. Being involved is as simple as perusing the site and seeing which cause you would like to help.

    The Local Food Banks

The local food banks can always use donations, and the good news is that they really make them count. Because of special deals they often negotiate with food suppliers, they can often buy a lot more food for each dollar than we can at the store. Because they are serving a sector that can't be as picky as people shopping in the store, things like bruised or less than perfect produce, dented cans, and other leftover food is often sold to food banks at radically discounted prices. When you give $10 to a food bank, you may have reason to feel like you've just given $100. So give $100, and it will feel like a million.
