57 Percent of Survey Respondents Couldn’t Locate the Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon is a popular tourist destination for many Americans - but apparently a lot of us don't even know where it is.

In a landmark survey released last week by Intrepid Travel, 57% of 2,000 respondents had no clue where the Grand Canyon is located, despite the fact that 70% of them claimed they knew their National Parks.

In case you didn't know, either - Grand Canyon National Park is in northern Arizona.

The survey also produced these equally scary results:

• 63% of respondents didn't know the Space Needle is in Seattle, with 17% believing it was in Cape Canaveral, Florida.
• 40% didn't know that Mount Rushmore is in South Dakota.
• 69% of respondents didn't know Yellowstone National Park is in Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana.

Despite these results, Intrepid Travel has high optimism for the future of American travel.

"Exploration and discovery fuel curiosity and make us smarter, more aware," said Intrepid Travel spokesperson Leigh Barnes. "America has so many treasures and unique sites to explore, hopefully people get out there and see all this country and the world have to offer."
