Halloween was a weekend full of spirited fun – but in this case spirits played a much bigger role in Colorado than just being the spooky things typically associated with this day of celebration. The "spirits" that party-goers indulged in rather, led to 250 people being arrested between October 30 through November 2.

As part of "The Heat Is On" campaign, CDOT joined forces with the Colorado State Patrol and 78 other local law enforcement agencies around the state to better saturate the roadways and keep them as safe as possible for motorists over the Halloween weekend. This included heightened patrols and random sobriety checkpoints specifically targeting impaired drivers.

Although the number of drivers arrested for DUI during this period is a rather high number, it appears that the extra efforts from law enforcement did pay off, as this amount of those who were arrested this year is significantly lower than the 329 drivers that faced the same situation during Halloween in 2014. The police departments around Colorado that had the most arrests were Denver with 50, Aurora with 36, and Colorado Springs with 34.
