It is the season for those unusual ingredients, eye of newt and toe of frog, but let’s
be smart. Two University of Northern Colorado students are undergoing rabies treatment after trying to rescue an injured bat which tested positive for rabies. They  didn’t get bit so this is a precautionary treatment.

The Coloradoan reports that the two males found the bat on Tuesday October 1st north of campus. They put the bat in a cage in their dorm room with the intention of nursing it back to health.

Health officials continue to warn the public about not touching or playing with any wild animals. The Weld County Health Department has confirmed 25 animal rabies cases so far throughout the county in 2013: 14 skunks, 6 bats, 2 horses, 1 cow, 1 fox, and 1 cat.
